This last weekend I went over to Matthew's house to find out what I needed to buy to get my tractor up and running. I first went over to work on the tractor because I got my block and head back and I thought I was ready to go but Matthew thought that it would be better to get most of the engine parts cleaned again but I didn't really need to go and get them cleaned really good he said that we could just steam wash them.

Trying to find time to work with my mentor has been quite a challenge for me lately. During the week it is really hard to go because of wrestling practice and then on weekends my Saturdays are filled with wrestling and most Sundays my mentor is having family time. So hopefully I can put some hours in as soon as wrestling is over an I will have a break between sports to get my tractor done. I have gotten the block from Salem and now I just have to put the motor back together as soon as I get the header and manifolds back from Mitchell.
I started working on my tractor on the 15th of January. We started off by taking off the hood and then we just started working on pulling parts off that need to come off to see if the block was good or not. After we took the manifold off we could see the block and knew that we had to buy a new block. The week after that week we pulled the whole motor out of the tractor and started getting the motor all tore down to just the block. Seth and I took my manifold to Mitchell to get cleaned. I am kind of stalled out until I get my new block which should be by the end of this week.
Moving my tractor over to Plankinton was a challenge. The rear wheels were locked up so the tractor would not roll at all. So Dad and I had to lift the front end of the tractor up and back the trailer underneath the tractor. Once we had the front end on the trailer Dad lifted up the back end and then pushed the tractor up onto the trailer. The tractor was a little too wide for the trailer but Dad and I managed to get it over to Plankinton with no problems.
On Sunday December 11, 2016 I went to see my mentor and to pick up my papers that I had to have turned in. When I meet with my mentor we discussed when a good time would be to start working on my tractor. We desided that over Christmas break would be a good time for me to get alot of the work done on it. Me and dad are going to try to get the tractor over to Matthew's shop in Plankinton hopefully soon so that way me and Matthew can work on it so maybe we could get it running during Christmas break so i have one less thing to worry about during the end of the year.
After meeting with Mrs. Stekly a couple of times I finally had my research paper done. While I was with Mrs. Stekly I have to got through my paper and she helped me find errors that needed to be fixed. I was able to get my paper done and out of my hair for the rest of the year. Now I am going to be working on getting my physical project going and to get my tractor up and running again. I still have some things to do like contact my mentor and to have him fill out some paperwork but all in all it is going right along.
In my research paper I am talking about the History of Allis-Chalmers. I have run into some problems with finding enough resources to get it all done and to have enough pages but I finally have it done! Now comes the hard part and that is sitting down and doing some corrections that need to be done. I had to take a couple of hours and finish my research paper on Sunday afternoon because my first day of corrections was on Monday. So far my paper hasn't been too bad for corrections but I will have to meet with Mrs. Stekly a couple of times more to get it all the way done.
In my research paper I am talking about the history of Allis-Chalmers products. Some things that I have found out that are cool are that A-C makes more than just tractors. A-C makes hay machinery, disks, plows, loader tractors, and crawler tractors. How A-C started was just before the 1930's and the great depression started off. The company took right off when it first started out because the tractors took over for horse pullers. A-C also was in the milling, and electrical production of things.
The past week has been a wild one. Over the past week I have been really working on note cards for my research paper. It has been not really hard to find sources to use and to write about. The thing that is the worst is finding the right information and then writing it down on a notecard to help with actually writing the paper. I have a total of 36 notecards right now but to write my whole paper I think I will have around 70 to 80 notecards because I have only used 2 out of my 10 sources that I have found, and I'm sure that I will write more note cards in the end.
My main project idea is to get my grandpa's old tractor up and running again and to put it in the tractor museum over in Kimball, SD. I haven't really thought about a second one yet because I have a mentor that said he would help me and I have the tractor already so. If I had to come up with another idea I was thinking about repainting my dads new horse trailer and to turn his old horse trailer into a car trailer thing to haul things around in.
